Tern Eclipse D16 Folding Bike Review

Tern Eclipse D16 Folding Bike has a full-sized 26″ wheels. It feels like a regular bike compared to the smaller 20″ Tern Link B7. It folds fast but is heavy to lift and carry along. But I like how it packs more power with its 2×8 speed Shimano shifter. Bumps and hills are more manageable with a full sized bike.

Tern Eclipse D16 Features

  • Full-sized 26″ Wheels

  • Hydraulic Disc Brakes
  • Folds in 10 seconds or less
  • Adjustable handlebar stem

Value for Money

The Tern Eclipse D16 has great features to boast. While it is a it pricey for a folding bike, it is still a good value with its full size frame. The bike can be resized quickly so my son and I can both use it. It saves me from buying a other full-sized bike once he needs an update. It has hydraulic brakes and a 2×8 speed shifter.

26″ Full Sized Bike

A 26″ full-sized bike feels more familiar than the 20″. It looks like a normal bike and ride like a normal bike. It doesn’t look weird or awkward like the 20″ folding bike designs. Despite the size, it still folds small and nice.

I get to ride it even on the hilly routes to Tagaytay and Kaibiang Tunnel. It has more speed and power than the 20″ folding bike. It won’t have a speed of a racing bike but it gets the job done.

Unfortunately, the size is no longer allowed in LRT and MRT stations that have restricted folding bike to 20″ and below.

Adjustable Handlebar

The handlebar is the patented Andros System by Tern. It allows you to adjust the stem to tilt forward and backwards. This adjusts the riding position for a relaxed upright ride, or to a low aggressive pose.

I also use it to adjust the length of the handle bar so that Gab can reach it. This make the Eclipse D16 resizable for different rider heights.

Heavy to Fold and Carry

My only complain with the Eclipse D16 is its weight. It is a heavy bike compared to the 20″ folding bike. It weighs about 15 kilos. Lifting becomes burdensome when you are already tired from a long ride. Add some water bottle and a bag and it gets more tiring.

Tern Eclipse D16 Folding Bike Review Summary

The Tern Eclipse D16 makes folding bikes look and feel familiar. It doesn’t look small and weird like the smaller folding bikes. Yet, it still folds small and neat so I can easily store and transport it like most folding bikes.

The 2×8 speed is a huge help for the hills and steep climbs. I’m glad to have this full-sized option aside from my 20″ foldie.

Where to Buy

I bought the Tern Eclipse D16 at Junni Shop in Lazada.

This is the second time I bought a bike from them. You can also check my review of the Tern Link B7 here.
