Air by Mpow X5.1J Wireless Earbuds Review

Air by Mpow X5.1J is a decent sounding wireless earbuds at a very reasonable price. I am surprised by the quality of sound separation. It is tuned nicely for low frequencies without sacrificing the mids and vocals. The details for high frequencies are clear and crisp. The Mpow X5.1J are good quality earbuds for a sale price of only 799 PHP.

Design

The earbuds are quite big compared to other designs. However, they are lightweight and still feels comfortable even when worn for up to 4 hours. It provides a tight fit which is good for sports activity so that they won’t fall of easily.

I just find the charging case ugly. 😁 It has a matte leather-like finish that looks vintage. It looks… well… old. But to be fair, the charging case has 4 small LEDs to indicate the charge level. It has a USB-C port for charging. It’s chunky in size but still portable and can fit in the pocket.

Connectivity and Controls

Connecting to the phone for the first time takes less than a minute. Just open the case and look for Air by Mpow X5.1J in the list of Bluetooth devices. Once you are connected, the X5.1J will automatically reconnect with your phone every time you open the case.

Mpow X5.1J uses touch controls. They are responsive and it is well-designed to lessen accidental touches. It also supports Siri and Google Assistant.

Sound Quality

The Mpow X5.1J has balanced sound. The bass is not overpowering while the mids and highs are clear. It sounds great for movies and for listening to podcasts as well.

The volume level can get loud and this is where it gets messy. At higher volume, the bass starts to be distorted once the low frequencies get rolling. Anything heavy makes the Mpow X5.1J crash. Deep bass will sound like a Brrrr… It loses its punch.

But at the right volume, sound separation is really nice. It is perfect for my favorite jazz or chill hop playlist. Each instrument can be clearly rendered by the Mpow X5.1J. Unlike, other budget earbuds that tends to prioritize the bass sounds, the Mpow gave a more careful thought on how to tune the X5.1J.

Battery Life

The earbuds can last up to 6 hours on a single charge. The charging case can charge up to 4 times for another 24 hours of listening. That’s a total of 30 hours.

Based on my test, the Mpow X5.1J loses 39% of its battery level after two hours of use. So the actual battery is about 5 hours which is good. But the charging case is able to provide 4 more full charges. Others can only charge for 2-3 times only.

Mpow X5.1J Review Summary

The Mpow X5.1J provides great sounding music for long hours with it’s long battery life. The sound quality is balanced. The volume can go high but it makes the music distorted. But there is a sweet spot just below the maximum volume.

For a sale price of 799 PHP, this is the best sounding earbuds that I bought for less than thousand pesos.

The Mpow X5.1J is available at the Mpow stores in Lazada and Shopee. The SRP is at 3,999 PHP but it usually goes on sale for less than a thousand. I bought mine for 799 PHP only and it’s the best buy at this price point.
