Marshall Emberton Review
I have been waiting for a miniature version of my Marshall Stanmore speaker and finally, it is here! The Marshall Emberton is a portable Bluetooth speaker with 20 hours of play time and an IPX7 rating. It’s multi-directional sound design allows me to carry it for any outdoor setting. It’s a must-have for any Marshall fan.
Classic Design, Durable Brand
I always fall for the iconic Marshall script logo. It’s a way to channel my frustration of becoming a 90s rock star. 🤟
I got a Marshall Stanmore speaker last 2014. I still use it today. The control knobs are not accurate anymore. It’s the result of normal wear and tear. But the sound quality is still great. I got plenty of Wow comments when I brought it to a party once. That is how durable a Marshall audio equipment is. That is why I still prefer a Marshall for my portable speaker over other brands. I want it to last long.
Small but Loud and Clear
What I like best about the Marshall Emberton is the loudness it can produce despite its small and compact size. I used it outdoors and it can fill the poolside with our Tito-certified 80s and 90s party tunes. 😁 Other Bluetooth speakers tends to be bigger to deliver the sound this loud. The Emberton just fits nicely a day bag with plenty of room for other gadgets and for snacks.
Sound quality is OK. The bass isn’t overpowering and the vocals are nice and clear. However, It struggles when I put the volume at maximum. I keep on comparing it with the bigger Marshall Stanmore which is unfair. I will try to put the Emberton on full volume hoping to make it sound like the Stanmore. Of course, the Stanmore is louder and have the better sound quality. But as a portable speaker, the Emberton is an all-around music companion.
To achieve a 360 sound, the Marshall Emberton has two 10W speakers. One in front and the other at the back. With it’s True Stereophonic sound by Marshall it creates a surround sound effect. I can hear the music well from all directions.
I prefer putting it on a wall. This way, the music from the other opposite side bounces nicely on the wall to make the sound fuller and more powerful.
Easy and Simple Knob-Control
Why can’t all speakers be like this! The Knob-Control is the big round button on top of the Marshall Emberton to control the music like play, pause, skip tracks and volume. It also serves as the on and off button. I prefer the Knob-Control than guessing the buttons to press in other designs. It is simple and easy to use. This makes the Emberton look clean and neat. Tita approved!
Must Have Features
Battery life of 20 hours is impressive. I tend to charge it just once a week. The battery meter on top has 10 levels. This provides a more accurate picture of how much charge the Emberton has. Other speakers just rely on 5 or less LED lights for the battery indicator. A one bar indicator can be very misleading one how much more playtime you can have.
I don’t really need the IPX7 rating for a Bluetooth speaker but it’s good to know that the Marshall Emberton can withstand up to 1 m of water for a period of up to 30 minutes.
Since it is waterproof, the trade-off is that the Emberton is not wrapped by the signature Marshall leather-like covering. It uses a silicone material instead that still looks like leather. This makes it more durable and can be taken anywhere. Even near the pool or try it in the pool.
No Extra Features
The Marshall Emberton is simply a portable Bluetooth speaker. It doesn’t have an audio jack option. It cannot be paired with another Emberton for a stereo configuration. It doesn’t have a companion app to adjust the bass and treble. For it’s price, that can be a turn off. Other portable Bluetooth speakers have better features for less the cost of the Marshall Emberton.
Marshall Emberton Review Summary
The Marshall Emberton is a good looking and good sounding speaker. The classic Marshall design always impresses. Its sound quality may not be as good as it’s bigger brothers. But its loudness is great for small to medium gatherings.
Weighing just about 0.7 kgs, this is light and small. It fits in a day bag and make me ready for the outdoors. Despite the small size, it still packs the power and loudness that Marshall speakers are known for.
Having owned the Marshall Stanmore for 7 years and counting, I am confident that I will enjoy listening to music with the Marshall Emberton for a long time.
Where to Buy
