DITO vs Smart, Globe, PLDT Fibr Speed Test

DITO Telecommunity is the 3rd Telco in the country. DITO is now available in Metro Manila and in several cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. I was able to setup a DITO Sim card on my Samsung Note 8 even if it is not part of the list of compatible phones yet.

DITO Router and DITO Sim Card

The best place to buy a DITO SIM Card is through their online store in Lazada and Shopee. I ordered the DITO SIM online and it arrived 2 days later.

So far, the signal is really strong when I tested it in Silang, Cavite. I have a dual sim phone so I tested my SMART and DITO Sim card using the same phone. The DITO signal is just overwhelming! I have been using the SMART signal for mobile data for a month in Cavite and I have experienced very slow connections. With DITO, the signal is really good. I could hardly get a 1Mbps speed with my SMART mobile data. However, the DITO download speed clocks at 32Mbps and 5Mbps for the upload speed.

Next test is using a router. Previously, I was using a Globe at Home router. I bought a DITO configured router online. There are sellers in Lazada and Shopee who have successfully configured a router to work with a DITO sim card. This is not an official DITO router. The router is just configured to work with a DITO Sim Card.

I compared the Globe and DITO signals and DITO still wins by a huge margin The DITO router gives 30Mbps download speed and a 6Mbps upload speed. The Globe router is just having 2Mbps and 1Mbps for the download and upload speeds, respectively.

My friendly neighbor has a PLDT Fibr connection. Overall, I find the PLDT Fibr speed faster than DITO. But if you compare the monthly fee of a PLDT Fibr and the DITO Data plan, getting the DITO is a lot cheaper for a very decent signal.

DITO is aggressively adding new locations every month. But it is not the perfect telco and does have its problems.

Right now, the biggest concern is the limited list of phones that is compatible with the DITO network. DITO uses VoLTE and not all phones have VoLTE. But I was able to setup my Samsung phone for DITO even if it is not in the list yet. Read my blog on how to setup a DITO Sim on a non-compatible android phone.

I also experienced signal downtimes using the DITO network. But it is less frustrating since the speed is fast and I can finish my work faster compared to the other networks. Other networks are slow and their signal is more erratic.

Despite these drawbacks, I expect DITO to continue being a game changer in the telecoms industry.
